Drying Paper-Based Materials
The technique that you select for drying will depend upon the number of books or documents that are involved, their importance, rarity and the use to which they will be put. Also, you will need to consider your person-power, expertise, facilities and time constraints.
You should know ahead of time, that once wet, books and papers will never again look the same after being dried. Some cockling and distortion is to be expected, whatever method is used.
If you have very valuable or unique or historic items, be sure to consult with a conservator.
For a more in-dept look at how to save materials damaged by water, look at Peter Water's extracts from the unpublished revised text entitled Procedures for Salvage of Water-Damaged Materials.
